The patchwork cot quilt is making progress (left), but today I discovered there’s no rush as the baby won’t be coming at Easter at all. No, apparently the little one isn’t due to make an appearance until June. I don’t know whether the baby just changed it’s mind, or whether in fact the mind of the person that told me it was due at Easter is suffering from Alzheimer’s (It was The Mother wot told me!).
I’m having fun making this one. I decided to make it a scrap quilt and work each block from a single range of colours. Don’t be fooled by the word ‘scrap’ though: it’s a total misnomer in this case. I had a big clear out of my fabric stash a while back and all I seem to have kept are a load of soft-furnishing fabrics (don’t ask me why!). The only suitable scrap I’ve got for this project is the blue polka-dot, so I’ve had to buy a few fat quarters to help me on my way. This has given me the chance to add a small amount of Kaffe Fasset designs to my stash – which has resulted in deep joy! (They’re the bright blue and the yellow/green patches in the patchwork so far.)
Tips
One of the good things about scrap quilts, aside from being environmentally better, is that if you need to purchase fabrics you can do so as you go along, rather than having to splash out in one go to finish the project. I like!
The Textile Directory Bookstore – Wow, what a resource! I was sent this link just the other day and I’m sold. If you want books on patchwork, quilting, knitting or any other textile craft, this is the place to go.
