Got something going on

Something creative that is!  Here’s just a few snaps, can’t stay long – should be getting on with it…  Will be back later on though, I’ve got more running rambles to tell you about!

It’s finished!

You can probably tell that I’m a but excited by the completion of this belated Christmas present, I really love it!  So, please forgive me if I’ve gone a bit overboard with the number of pictures; the quilt has gone now, so they’re all I have left!  You might think I’d be a bit bereft or scratching around for something else to do, but no. Alongside finishing this quilt, I’ve also been knitting – trying to finish another belated Christmas present.  And that’s what I’m going to focus on now, a beautiful lacy scarf.  I’ll show you some pictures of that in a day or two, when that one’s also on it’s way to its new owner!

Nearly there…

I thought of a few titles for this post: Round in circles, but nearly there; Round and round I go;  Done circling…  Rubbish all of them.  Let’s just say that the ‘fundamentally green’ quilt (as I’m calling it for the moment), is nearly there:

  • The hand quilting done: check.
  • All basting threads removed: check.
  • Binding machined in place: check.
  • Hand stitching of binding complete: er no.
  • ‘Dedication’ patch for the reverse stitched and sewn into place?  Er, another no for that one.
  • Washed and dried: definitely not!

But, so, so close that I want to give you a hint at what it will look like – it’s just so exciting that I can’t keep it to myself!

What was I thinking?  Two HAND quilted quilts for Christmas gifts?  To be made in just a few weeks… I am definitely off my trolley!  I’m extremely pleased with the way they’re looking at the moment, but I’m wondering how they’re going to be looking on Christmas day.  Decidedly unfinished I should think. :(  I hope the recipients will forgive me and will look forward to receiving them again, finished, in the new year!  In the mean time, posts around here may be a bit sporadic as I try and frantically do as much to them as I possibly can over the next few days.  Bear with me lovely readers!  I promise to be back before the big day :)

Stitching stars

Yep, I’ve been thinking a lot about art, but I’ve been quilting, quilting, quilting.  The deadline for this one is still the week before Christmas, this year!  I can only do it when Kim’s not here of course, so I have to take every opportunity I can to get stitching.  So far so good.  Still a long way to go, but it’s great when you can see the effect of what you’ve already done.  As usual I’ve been quilting by hand, but I decided to use a thread I’ve not used for quilting before, a cotton perle in a christmassy red (Anchor size 12).  I thought I’d try it out as I wanted to outline quilt the stars and thought something a bit more decorative would be nice.  It lays on the surface well and is pleasant to stitch with, not easily wearing or breaking.  Best of all it looks great.
