Two little girls were born a few weeks ago; Sophia and Isabella are the granddaughters of a very close friend. Hopefully these patchwork pillows are destined to decorate the cots in their new, wonderfully woodland-themed nursery. One of the fabrics in the patchwork was used in their cribs and I took the colour-scheme from there. Just a bit of fun, simple and lighthearted. They’ll probably start chewing them in a few months time. Or maybe they’ll have mini pillow fights…

 For Janie
This little pillow is filled with roses. Well rose pot-pourri. And it smells wonderful. Just imagine popping it on the pillows on your bed and falling asleep breathing in the smells of a summer garden. Romantic nonsense? No! Everyone needs a little bit of romance don’t they? I know I’d like some. There’s been a serious lack of it around here for years (It’s true!) But I digress. What do you think of the pillow? I made it for my exceptionally patient friend Janie (it’s a belated Christmas present) and I think she likes it, which is important! As you can see it’s an asymmetrical patchwork design with hand and machine quilting, some applique and embroidery. The small floral prints are from Liberty and the one with pink and yellow roses is from Tilda.
Are you wondering about the embroidered word ‘trees’? Maybe you’re thinking “it’s a bit random that bit”? You were? I thought maybe you’d be thinking that! Janie and I go for regular walks and I wanted to evoke something that might remind her of the beautiful places we’ve been, Trelissick in the autumn, Lanhyrdock in the summer…Miss P’s when it’s raining! (Slackers the pair of us.) And there’s a certain shade of green that she loves, so I included plenty of it here. And green, well it does remind me of trees…
I hope you like the photo mosaics I made too. They’re a lovely way of showing related pictures together, but I think maybe I need to take some better photographs. Or get a better camera, that might help. I wonder if the images are large enough too – if you click on them you’ll obviously see them full size, but I wonder if people actually bother to do that. Well people, do you?! You will let me know won’t you? I know I can be a miserable git but I really would like you to come back, so tell me what works best for you and I’ll give it a go.

Until next time then.

This whimsical pressie for a very special friend is one of my favourites! It was great fun to make, except when the darn sewing machine decided it really didn’t like doing embroidery…the air was blue. And I broke three needles in the process!

What do you give a man that seems to drink nothing but tea and the odd Betty Stogs? Kim thought his daddy might appreciate a tea-cosy for his favourite hot tipple, so helped me design and make him one. He designed “the logo”, as he called the text and the clock, so although I embroidered it, it’s actually Kim’s hand-writing and drawing. He decided he wanted to do some sewing too and embroidered the ‘tea’ pouring from the spout in his best running stitch. He also did some of the machine stitching on the cosy lining. He was very pleased with his efforts and I was really pleased that he wanted to be so involved; it was lovely working on a Christmas project together. I almost felt all warm and festive inside!
 It's time for tea!

I thought I’d show to yooooo – a coffee pot cover I made for friends Belinda and Steve.
Can you smell the roasted beans?
She makes a lovely pot of coffee does Belinda, and it’s usually my first demand when I wander into her lively kitchen. And she always has biscuits. How do people do that, keep a packet or more of biscuits in the house without eating the entire lot in two sessions?
 The colourful back
The main fabric is, of course, from Kaffe Fassett’s collection of quilting fabrics (my local fabric shop says I’m their biggest Kaffe Fassett fan… It’s undeniable that I’m drawn to them like a magnet!) The blue central strip was from a child’s dress that I picked up in a charity shop somewhere along the line.
 Hand and machine embroidery
I quilted the cover by machine, but the text is embroidered by hand. I haven’t really used my sewing machine for embroidery or quilting in the last few years, but I’m beginning to get a bit more enthusiastic about it lately, especially a combination of hand and machine work. I reckon being sat hunched over a sewing machine doesn’t have quite the allure of sitting on the sofa with a glass of wine in one hand and a needle in the other. Or, for that matter, a cup of coffee in one hand and a needle in the other!
As I promised, I’ll be back tomorrow with something else I made over the Christmas period so I’ll see you then!

From the Loft is looking good. I’ve added a goodly number of rose-scented hearts and sachets today, which I hope you’ll want to snap up, or at least go and ‘favourite’. I’ve only got three people ‘favouriting’ my shop so far, which is giving me a big pouty bottom lip! The little gallery below (and in the right hand column) shows prices in US dollars, but when you go to my shop you’ll see them in Sterling as well; annoying I know. I think the hand-made hearts are a bit of a bargain considering all the commission fees and postage to be taken off – oh yes, there’s free postage to UK addresses! (And it’s fairly reasonable elsewhere.)
Aaah, I feel like everything’s coming up roses
Still got the cushion covers to add, but it’s been yet another very dull grey day here – meaning poor light for taking photographs with my not so hot camera! Fingers crossed the sun pokes its head out from behind the clouds later on, or failing that TOMORROW!
Think I need a run now, before I forget how!
Bye bye for now
