Weekend workout

A 7m race tomorrow. Uphill and down dale in Launceston (with its weird little castle perched precariously on a mound), between Bodmin and Dartmoor. I haven’t done enough training – every time I go uphill lately my calves seize up, so I’ve been saving myself instead of pushing myself over the brink of injury. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow, but I’m looking forward to it.

Today though, I’ve had to clear the kitchen table of any craft things I have on the go for this…

18th September, it's getting close...

Sadly I’m not running it this year. Instead I’m helping my club to organise it. I’m the entry co-ordinator and with over 600 entries expected, it’s taking up a lot of time at the moment.

The registration station!

It’s exciting to see it all taking shape. And with the dark grey, mizzly skies over Truro this afternoon it seems like the perfect opportunity to be getting on with it. But the grey, grey skies have left me feeling in a bit of a grey mood too. I’m listening to Adele and thinking of Kim’s father making final preparations to go away with his new girlfriend this weekend…

After 23 years with someone (more than half my life at the time we went our separate ways), it’s hard not to listen to any song since the early 1980′s that doesn’t link to a memory with him of some sort. And although it left me utterly broken-hearted, it’s finally time to make some new memories I think :)

Isn’t it incredible how something as ‘simple’ as a piece of music and some words are like directions to occasions throughout life? One of my favourite tracks for running at the moment is Madonna’s Ray of Light. I’m not known as a Madonna fan. AT ALL. But hey, if it’s good enough for Iggy Pop, it’s good enough for me! And faster than a ray of light? Well, I can dream can’t I?!

So, tell me, what song marked a new beginning for you, or what would you recommend – I haven’t found one yet. And it sure is about time I did!

Have a great weekend.

I’m updating the blog. Things will go awry (they always do!) so please bear with me, hopefully things will be back to normal by the end of the day…

Time for a change?

Oh dear. I’m getting fed up with the banner image at the top of the page. It’s a close up of one of my art-works, but I’m craving something more colourful. Something fabricy perhaps, more eye-catching and crafty rather than arty. I find it difficult to come up with something that encompasses both my art and craft. What do you think?  Should I find something else?  Please help me. I really need it. Continue reading Time for a change?

Running away with myself

Screen shot of TRC Website

Screenshot

It’s all been about running lately.  Training, club, track, road, trail, racing.  And the website.  That is, the new club site that I’ve designed and got up and running over the last couple of weeks.  It’s been a mammoth job and there’s still plenty to do. Isn’t there always?! There’s so much new content to go on that I haven’t even looked at the old stuff yet…

I’ve really enjoyed doing it and it certainly seems to be appreciated by the club members – I’ve had nothing but positive comments.  Well apart from one or two complaints about the photograph at the top of the web page.  I chose it because of all the lovely vests and the bright sunshine.  It was a full picture and I cropped it so that people couldn’t be recognised.  I didn’t have a clue who any of them were at any rate.  Until I got a ‘tap on the shoulder’ from someone at the club. “My only criticism is the photo at the top of the page; those members have left now.”  “Oh”, I said. “Does it really matter then, it’s such a lovely photo and no-one can be recognised?”. “Well, that one’s … and the other one’s my ex-wife.”  I grinned and said he should be glad I’d cut her head off then!

I seem to be involving myself more and more in club matters.  I’ve agreed to be the Entry Co-ordinator for The Charles Stanley City of Truro Half Marathon that we organise every year.  50% of the profits will be going to Mind, so I wanted to show my support.  I think it will be good for me too.  It’s a focus outside of myself, if that makes any sense, where I’ll be dealing with large numbers of people. It feels like another step on the road to recovery at least.

Having got the site in some sort of order I can see a lot of things I need to do here now.  Getting that menu sorted out for one thing. And adding more galleries and content to the pages about craft and running, etc – you know the ones!  I think I might take a break first though and do some more of that knitting I mentioned in the last post.  I need to clear my head!

Smelling sweet

small pot-pourri pillow, patchwork, quilted and embroidered

For Janie

This little pillow is filled with roses. Well rose pot-pourri. And it smells wonderful. Just imagine popping it on the pillows on your bed and falling asleep breathing in the smells of a summer garden. Romantic nonsense? No! Everyone needs a little bit of romance don’t they? I know I’d like some. There’s been a serious lack of it around here for years :( (It’s true!)  But I digress. What do you think of the pillow?  I made it for my exceptionally patient friend Janie (it’s a belated Christmas present) and I think she likes it, which is important! As you can see it’s an asymmetrical patchwork design with hand and machine quilting, some applique and embroidery.  The small floral prints are from Liberty and the one with pink and yellow roses is from Tilda.

Are you wondering about the embroidered word ‘trees’?  Maybe you’re thinking “it’s a bit random that bit”? You were? I thought maybe you’d be thinking that!  Janie and I go for regular walks and I wanted to evoke something that might remind her of the beautiful places we’ve been, Trelissick in the autumn, Lanhyrdock in the summer…Miss P’s when it’s raining! (Slackers the pair of us.)  And there’s a certain shade of green that she loves, so I included plenty of it here.  And green, well it does remind me of trees…

I hope you like the photo mosaics I made too.  They’re a lovely way of showing related pictures together, but I think maybe I need to take some better photographs.  Or get a better camera, that might help. I wonder if the images are large enough too – if you click on them you’ll obviously see them full size, but I wonder if people actually bother to do that. Well people, do you?! You will let me know won’t you? I know I can be a miserable git but I really would like you to come back, so tell me what works best for you and I’ll give it a go.

New theme

Erm, maybe this new colour scheme is looking a bit sugary and dare I say it…girly?  Not sure I can cope with that thought.  Excuse me whilst I go to the bathroom and vomit.

Honest opinions sought – got any comments, let me have em.  Got no comments, let me have em.

Back as soon as my stomach settles.
